Since the beginning of a full-scale war, Ukraine has lost from 10 to 13 thousand military dead. This was announced by the adviser to the head of the Office of the President Mikhail Podolyak with reference to the data of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
“Undoubtedly, Madame Ursula was mistaken – this is obvious. So they removed that video, removed those numbers. We have the official assessments of the General Staff, which are voiced by the Supreme Commander. Losses range from 10 to 12.5-13 thousand dead … Yes, we have more losses due to injuries, ”he said on the air of Channel 24.
In his statement, Podolyak speaks of a mistake by the European Commission. On November 30, the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, said in a video message that 100,000 Ukrainian soldiers had died since the start of the war. Later, EC spokesperson Dana Spinant clarified that what was actually meant was the total number of dead and injured. After that, the video was removed from von der Leyen's page, replacing it with a corrected version.
In the same speech, the head of the EC announced 20,000 dead civilians. According to Podolyak, this assessment is also incorrect. He stated that in fact this number is much higher, especially considering the mass graves found in the de-occupied territories.
The last time Ukraine reported on the number of military dead was in August. Then the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny reported about nine thousand people.
