The editors of the Dozhd TV channel, whose license to broadcast in Latvia was revoked today, announced that it would continue its work.
“The Latvian authorities have decided to revoke the license from the Dozhd TV channel. The TV channel will stop broadcasting on cable, but will remain on YouTube. We continue to work and consider all the accusations against us to be unfair and absurd, ”the editorial office said in a statement.
On December 6, the Latvian National Electronic Media Council (NEPLP) annulled the broadcasting license of the Dozhd TV channel. This happened after the presenter Alexei Korostelev uttered a phrase on the air about the supply of Russian mobilized, for which he was fired .
Dozhd CEO Natalya Sindeeva told Meduza that the channel did not try to "negotiate" with the Latvian authorities and that she regretted Korostelev's hasty dismissal.
Earlier, NEPLP fined Dozhd for 10,000 euros. The fine was imposed due to the fact that the TV channel designated the occupied Crimea as part of Russia and called the Russian army "our army".
