Alexei Navalny, who is currently serving a sentence in the Vladimir IK-6, supported the team of the Dozhd TV channel, whose license was recently revoked by the Latvian authorities. He wrote about this on Twitter:
“I want to express my support for @tvrain. This is an honest independent media that I have been working with since its inception. Their work this year, when they uncompromisingly condemned Putin's war against Ukraine, became a source of truth about this war for millions of Russians, I admire.
The decision of the Latvian authorities to deprive Dozhd of its license seems to me erroneous and based on a lack of information. Of course, Latvia is free to make any decisions in the interests of its citizens, and I don’t think they see a threat in the media, the host of which made a slip on the air.”
Navalny noted that he believes in European democracy and the judiciary and has no doubt that in the end "a fair decision will be made."
Dozhd's license was revoked on 6 December. This happened after the presenter Alexei Korostelev uttered a phrase on the air about supplying the Russian mobilized, for which he was fired . According to Ivars Abolins, head of the National Electronic Media Council of Latvia, the decision was made "due to the threat to national security."
At the same time, during the Euromaidan, the official himself wrote on Twitter posts that Latvia should sponsor Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych (he opposed the country's European integration), because Ukraine has no place in the European Union. He also called Putin's speech to the Federation Council of the Russian Federation on the day of the annexation of Crimea on March 18, 2014, excellent.
According to him, he regrets his old statements, and they were based "on the information available at the time."
