In the Stavropol Territory, a criminal case has been opened on the mass death of cranes from chemical preparations for combating rodents, Interfax reports .
According to the investigation, in November of this year, at least 800 dead common cranes were found on the agricultural lands of the Petrovsky urban district. This species is listed in the Red Book of the Stavropol Territory. Four hares and a partridge also died.
In November, a drug used to control rodents was distributed to these lands. It is noted that the technology of using the drug was not observed.
TASS, citing the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the region, reports that "as a result of a chemical-toxicological study, a poison containing organophosphorus compounds that led to death was found in animals and birds."
