As a result of a missile attack on a residential building in the Dnieper, 20 people were killed, the head of the administration of the Dnepropetrovsk region, Valentin Reznichenko, said on his telegram channel. Another 73 were injured , more than 40 of them were hospitalized, three are in serious condition.

The head of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Council, Nikolai Lukashuk, in turn, said that 19 people had died, including a child. According to him, 14 children were among the victims.

Reznichenko also said that more than 40 people remained under the rubble. In a multi-storey building that was hit by a rocket, 72 apartments were completely destroyed, 230 were damaged. The rescue operation continues, firefighters are extinguishing several fires.

The deputy head of the office of the Ukrainian president, Kirill Timoshenko, said that the entire house was left without electricity and gas, and also lost windows. “In fact, more than a thousand people need to be provided with housing,” the official wrote.

Mayor of Dnipro Boris Filatov, who is located at the affected house, told Suspilny that part of the building would have to be dismantled. According to him, the authorities are working to help residents remove the things left in the destroyed house.

The day before, Aleksey Arestovich, adviser to the office of the Ukrainian president, said that a missile over the Dnieper was shot down by a Ukrainian air defense system, after which it fell on a residential building. He expressed this version during a stream on Mark Feigin's YouTube channel. Mayor Filatov, commenting on this statement, wrote that "Arestovich is a narcissistic cattle and a garbage mouth." According to the official, the SBU and other special services "are obliged to respond."

The Air Force of Ukraine denied Arestovich's version, saying that they "have no fire weapons capable of shooting down this type of missiles."

On January 14, Russian forces launched a massive missile attack on Ukrainian territory. In Dnipro, a rocket hit a nine-story residential building, destroying two entrances. The representative of the Armed Forces of Ukraine stated that it was a Kh-22 missile, which was launched by a Tu-22M3 bomber from the Kursk region or the Sea of Azov.
