The Bryansk Regional Court sentenced 31-year-old Maxim Timerkhanov to five years in a strict regime colony, accused of trying to leave to fight on the side of Ukraine. This was reported on the website of the court.
According to investigators, Timerkhanov was going to join the Freedom of Russia legion. He was detained in the village of Belaya Berezka, Bryansk region, near the border with Ukraine. According to the press service of the court, the police were called by a local resident, who drew attention to Timerkhanov's "voluminous backpack". The investigation concluded that he planned to “leave for Ukraine to take part in hostilities against the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation” (part 3, article 30, part 2, article 208 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).
Timerkhanov wrote a confession. His lawyer called his client "a victim of the information propaganda of the special services of Ukraine." Timerkhanov himself said that he “let himself be deceived [by the Ukrainian special services].”
This is the sixth case being considered by the Bryansk Regional Court against those who allegedly plan to fight on the side of Ukraine. Ilya Kutsev received the maximum term. According to investigators, he also wanted to join the "Freedom of Russia". According to Ukrainian officials, this is a unit of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, formed from Russian prisoners of war and volunteers who went over to the side of Ukraine. Ilya Ponomarev, a former State Duma deputy, also spoke about him. At the same time, there is no evidence of the real existence of the legion.
