Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev published another post on Telegram, in which he cursed the Davos Economic Forum for discussing the supply of weapons to Ukraine. In addition to personal attacks against the Polish President Andrzej Duda, as well as insulting the Poles on a national basis (this, alas, is no longer surprising), there is the following passage:
“Earlier, they discussed something else in Davos. Like the economy and all that. It’s good that there is no Russian or Chinese business there today.”
Medvedev's post was quoted by many Russian media, including TASS , Rossiyskaya Gazeta , RT , Vedomosti , REN TV , RIA Novosti , RBC , Kommersant .
The report about the "lack of Chinese businessmen in Davos" appeared two days ago in a Bloomberg article. Journalists attributed this to the fact that in China there is a sharp surge in cases of coronavirus. So, officials of one of the largest Chinese provinces of Henan recently admitted that almost 90% of the population is infected there. Journalists and researchers report that medical facilities across the country are overwhelmed with sick people, and crematoria do not have time to burn the bodies of the dead.
But despite this, a Chinese delegation arrived in Davos. It was headed by Vice Premier Liu He, who is called the chief economic adviser and one of the closest confidants of the Chinese Supreme Leader Xi Jinping. Liu He's visit to the economic forum is the first trip by a senior Chinese official to Davos since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, the Vice Premier of the People's Republic of China delivered a speech that instilled optimism in Western politicians – that China is reopening to the world after three years of isolation, about attracting foreign investment in the country's economy and about abandoning the "Cold War mentality".
This suggests rather that China is again preparing to actively cooperate with the West on economic issues and is not particularly offended by the supply of tanks to Ukraine. This is also evidenced by an editorial in the Global Times, the mouthpiece of the Communist Party of China, entitled "China has always kept pace with the Davos agenda."
