Human rights activist Abubakar Yangulbaev offered the head of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov to exchange him for his mother Zarema Musaeva. She has been in jail for a year now.

“This year my mother's health has only worsened. It is hard for her to be in prison, and she should not be there in any case. She should not be held responsible for the actions of her sons. And you, if a man, Kadyrov, if you consider yourself the personification of the maximum masculinity in this country, you must let her go. And since it so happened that we have the rules of war and the laws do not apply in Russia and Chechnya, then let's exchange it for me. Don't touch women. Take me instead of her,” Yangulbaev said in a video message on his Telegram channel.

“Choose for yourself who will be the neutral guarantor of the exchange. I believed that bringing public outcry to the abduction of my mother, Zarema Musayeva, could save her. The war has written everything off. In Russia, there is no longer room for law, human rights and freedoms. Everything in the country is dead. But it's not my mother's fault. Release her in exchange for me! And you can torture me every day, mock me, kill me, resurrect me, and all over again, ”he writes under the video.

Musayeva's case began exactly a year ago, on January 20, 2022. On that day, Chechen security forces broke into the apartment of her and her husband, retired federal judge Saydi Yangulbaev. They were unable to kidnap their husband, but they kidnapped Musayeva. The pretext was that she was allegedly a witness in a fraud case in Grozny. Musaeva was taken to the capital of Chechnya. During the detention, she allegedly scratched the face of a police officer, for which a case was opened against her for violence against a representative of the authorities, dangerous to life and health. Since January 2022, Musaeva has been in a pre-trial detention center in Grozny.
