Magnitude 6.3 earthquake hits Turkey, devastation – CNN Turk

In Turkey, in Antakya, a new earthquake of magnitude 6.3 occurred, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center reported . The earthquake was also felt in Lebanon, Syria, Cyprus and Israel. According to CNN Turk, there is destruction in Hatay province.

The correspondent of the TV channel Busse Deviren said that in Khatai the ground was sinking under his feet, the tent city where he lives was shaking violently. It could have been an aftershock, he said. Now everything is covered with smoke, probably those buildings that did not collapse during the first major earthquake collapsed.

The TRT Haber channel, citing the Turkish Disaster Prevention and Relief Administration (AFAD), also reports that there is damage as a result of the earthquake. Habertürk journalists claim that a cloud of dust has formed in Hatay, and the sounds of ambulances are heard. Information about the dead and injured is not given.

On February 6, an earthquake of magnitude 7.7 struck Turkey and Syria. This is the largest earthquake in Turkey since 1939. More than 45 thousand people died . The Turkish Confederation of Entrepreneurship and Business estimates that the earthquake caused damage to residential buildings in the amount of about $ 70 billion, loss of national income amounted to $ 10 billion.
