The UN General Assembly adopted a resolution demanding the withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukraine, an end to hostilities and strikes on critical infrastructure and civilian objects, the message was published on the Organization's website.

The international community is asked to redouble its support for peace efforts in Ukraine.

141 countries voted in favor. Seven countries opposed: Russia, Belarus, North Korea, Syria, Nicaragua, Mali and Eritrea. 32 countries abstained, among them Iran, India, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Cuba, Armenia and China, which presented its plan by February 24 to resolve the issue of war in Ukraine.

The resolution speaks of the need to comply with international law and bring to justice those responsible for crimes in Ukraine. In addition, it consolidates the theses of the “peace formula” formulated by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Belarus had previously proposed removing the clause on the withdrawal of Russian troops from the text of the resolution. Also, according to the republic, it was necessary to add a proposal to the UN countries "to refrain from sending weapons to the conflict zone." The General Assembly rejected the proposal.

Exactly one year ago, on February 24, 2022, Russia invaded Ukraine, President Vladimir Putin announced a "special military operation." Since then, the Russian Federation has regularly shelled Ukrainian cities, launched rocket attacks on them, destroying residential buildings and critical infrastructure, and killing civilians. At least 8,006 civilians were killed and more than 13,000 were injured, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk said. The real number of victims may be much higher, since not all data are officially confirmed. As of January 31, 2023, the number of refugees registered for temporary protection in Europe amounted to 4 million 823.33 thousand. Most of all - 1 million 563.39 thousand Ukrainians - were forced to leave for Poland. All this time, Russian propaganda has been promoting the theses that in Ukraine the Russian Federation is fighting some “neo-Nazis” and the country has not “attacked” anyone first. Ukraine after the invasion of the Russian Federation is supported by Western countries, supplying weapons, ammunition and humanitarian aid, some European leaders personally visited Kyiv during the war to show their support.

The Insider published a brief chronicle of the war in Ukraine with quotes from its participants, instigators, victims, observers and heroes. Including in the selection there are statements by officials that Russia has no plans to attack Ukraine, made a few weeks before the start of the war.
