A court in Belarus sentenced Svetlana Tikhanovskaya in absentia to 15 years, according to the Viasna human rights center.

Tikhanovskaya was accused of ten criminal cases: preparing to participate in mass riots, conspiring to seize power, creating and leading “extremist formations”.

Earlier it became known that the apartment of Svetlana and Sergei Tikhanovsky was put up for auction in Belarus as the property of a “debtor”. In January, Siarhei Tsikhanouski, who is serving an 18-year sentence, was charged with disobedience to the prison administration. The maximum penalty under this article is two years in prison.

Last week, a court in Belarus found Nobel laureate Ales Bialiatski guilty of "smuggling" and "repeatedly violating the procedure for organizing or holding mass events" and sentenced him to 10 years in prison. Other defendants in this case, members of the Viasna human rights center Vladimir Labkovich and Valentin Stefanovich received sentences of 7 and 9 years. Also, Dmitry Solovyov, who left Belarus, received 8 years in prison. He was convicted in absentia.
