The Central District Court of Togliatti sentenced the former co-chairman of the local branch of the Party of People's Freedom (PARNAS) Andrei Balin to 7 years in a penal colony because of publications on the social network VKontakte about the war in Ukraine. About this writes "OVD-Info" with reference to his lawyer Zakhar Lebedev.
Balin was found guilty of spreading "fake news" about the Russian army motivated by political hatred (clause "d" part 2 of article 207.3 of the Criminal Code). In addition to the term, he was also given a ban on site administration for four years.
The criminal case against Balin was initiated in June 2022. On July 20, he was sent on bail. According to investigators, Balin distributed "fakes" about the Russian army in six of his posts.
