The Milan Court of Appeal ruled to extradite to the United States Artem Uss, a Russian businessman and son of the governor of the Krasnoyarsk Territory, Alexander Uss. As La Repubblica writes , the court found two of the accusations brought against the Russian to be convincing enough: smuggling Venezuelan oil in circumvention of the embargo and bank fraud.
Uss's defense may file a cassation appeal against the court's decision. He himself remains under house arrest in Italy.
Russia also turned to Italy with a request for the extradition of Artem Uss, the Meshchansky Court of Moscow arrested him in absentia in a money laundering case. Uss himself also asked the Italian court to send him home. Allegedly, by filing an extradition request, the Russian authorities are trying to save Uss from extradition to the United States.
Artem Uss was arrested in Italy at the request of the US authorities in October 2022. In addition to oil smuggling and fraud, the US accuses him of illegally exporting US military technology and money laundering. In the Uss case, his business partner Yuri Orekhov and two other Russians were also detained .
