Andrey Vereshchak, the former head of the Angarsk correctional colony No. 15, was sentenced to four years in prison for embezzlement of budget funds. Vereshchak, including. led IK-15 in 2020, when there were mass protests of prisoners, suppressed by FSIN officers.
According to the court, in January 2017, Vereshchak organized a forest pathological examination of a forest area that did not belong to the colony using budget funds. The budget was damaged in the amount of about 700 thousand rubles. According to one version, in order to hide the machinations, Vereshchak ordered the colony building to be set on fire during the protests of the prisoners. Recall that then, as a sign of disagreement with torture, about 200 people injured themselves. Eyewitnesses said that Vereshchak, through an "authoritative prisoner", persuaded the others to disperse to the barracks, after which he let the special forces of the Federal Penitentiary Service and OMON into the territory of IK-15. The security forces beat not only the protesters, but also those prisoners who refrained from participating in the riot.
This is not the only criminal case brought against Vereshchak. he is also accused of taking a bribe in the amount of one million rubles from his subordinate. It is alleged that in this way he wanted to avoid dismissal for a gross disciplinary violation.
