RIA Novosti published an article under the heading "The expert explained the connection between the names "Katyn" and "Bucha" by the same play on words." It says :
“The Nazis chose the geographical name “Katyn” in 1943 to accuse the USSR of allegedly shooting Polish officers because this toponym is consonant with the Polish word “executioner”, the same technique was used by the West and the Kiev regime ruled by it during the provocation in Bucha, the scientific director of the Center believes studying the prospects for integration of the EAEU Oksana Kornilova.
Poland annually celebrates the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Katyn on April 13th. On that day in 1943, the German Propaganda Ministry, led by Goebbels, reported that a mass grave of Polish officers allegedly shot by the NKVD had been found in the Katyn forest in the Smolensk region. After the liberation of Smolensk by the Red Army, a Soviet commission was created, which, after conducting its own investigation, concluded that the Poles in Katyn in the autumn of 1941 were killed by the German occupying forces.
The Nazis used the name “Katyn” because a few kilometers away was the ancient Smolensk village of Katyn, named after the word “roll”, and where “there was a road from the Varangians to the Greeks,” Kornilova noted.
But this geographical name in Polish takes on a different meaning due to the Polish root kat, meaning “executioner,” Kornilova added.
“All this Katyn provocation was originally designed for the Poles ... This word initially sets dualism for the entire study of the Katyn crime,” she stressed. In the very name "Katyn" for the Poles 80 years ago, it was laid down that there are executioners and victims, Kornilova noted.
“These Nazi manuals, as we know, are used in the current situation in Ukraine,” she added.
As an example, she cited the provocation in Bucha, organized by the Kyiv regime at the end of March 2022 and promoted by the West. Bucha is a name that says nothing in Russian, there are hundreds of other Ukrainian settlements nearby, but it was Bucha that was chosen for the anti-Russian provocation, Kornilova noted.
“Who was this provocation aimed at? to the English-speaking audience. The word 'Bucha' is consonant with the English word butcher - a butcher," the expert added."
The fact that in Russia they again began to deny the guilt of the Soviet authorities in the execution of Polish prisoners of war in the Katyn Forest, although this guilt had previously been officially recognized by Russia, is nothing new. The Insider recently wrote about the attempt of the same RIA Novosti to confirm the version of the guilt of the Nazi occupiers with the testimony of a German prisoner of war, which was not trusted even in the USSR and which he himself, after repatriation to Germany, called false, knocked out by the investigation. The original in the new RIA publication is only the parallel between Katyn and Bucha based on linguistic calculations. However, this idea was drawn from the speech of the notorious deputy Anatoly Wasserman in the State Duma.
According to a professional historian, candidate of historical sciences Kornilova, the Nazis, who reported in April 1943 about the burial place of executed Polish officers discovered in the Katyn forest, were primarily concerned about the public opinion of the Poles. Perhaps an attempt to stir up hostility between the Poles and the USSR would have some practical meaning for the Germans in anticipation of the offensive of the Soviet troops to the west and the liberation of Poland from the German occupation. But in the spring of 1943, the situation on the fronts was completely different, Poland was completely captured, the German troops had not yet begun Operation Citadel near Kursk, which would turn out to be their last attempt to attack to the east. It is unlikely that anyone in the leadership of the Reich could predict how the course of the war would change in a year.
And the thesis that the syllable kat among the Poles evokes an unequivocal association with the executioner is rather doubtful, if only because the word katolik , a popular female name in Poland Katarzyna, the name of a large city Katowice, begins with this syllable.
Katyn is not only the name of a village near Smolensk; the forest where Polish prisoners of war died has been called Katyn for centuries. In the same way, he is referred to in the materials of the Soviet commissions investigating the murder of prisoners, and in the materials of the Soviet prosecution at the Nuremberg trials.
As for Bucha, there is irrefutable evidence that the Russian military is responsible for the massacre of civilians, including satellite imagery proving that the bodies found on the streets of Bucha came from the Russian occupation. The dead inhabitants of the city are identified . There are many Ukrainian settlements, but such a massacre took place in Bucha. There were other similar crimes of the Russian invaders, for example, in Izyum, but this city was liberated much later than Bucha, so it was Bucha that attracted the attention of the whole world.
