The FSB reported that it had detained a 34-year-old local resident in Crimea suspected of “high treason” (Article 275 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). TASS writes about it. The security forces claim that the man was transmitting to the Ukrainian military data on the movement of military equipment for inflicting missile strikes on it. The maximum punishment under the article on treason is life imprisonment.
“It was established that the detainee sent to the chat bot of one of the Ukrainian Telegram channels used by the Ukrainian special services to collect intelligence, a video recording of the movement of the military echelon of military equipment of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation in the direction of the zone of the special military operation,” the FSB told TASS.
The article on “treason” was tightened in April 2023, after the death of z-military commander Vladlen Tatarsky. It was then that it was amended to provide for life imprisonment. According to the State Duma, this will allow Russia to defend itself against the "unprecedented threats" that it allegedly faced "from Ukraine and its Western sponsors."
