The Prosecutor General's Office of Russia recognized the activities of the environmental activist organization Greenpeace as "undesirable". As RIA Novosti writes with reference to the department, this decision was made "including because of attempts [Greenpeace] to interfere in the internal affairs of the country." In addition, the organization allegedly sponsors the work of Russian “foreign agents” organizations, and since the beginning of a full-scale war, “is engaged in anti-Russian propaganda.”
At the end of April, the Russian Ecological Society (REO) asked to recognize Greenpeace and the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) as "foreign agents". The latter actually received this status as a result, but Greenpeace faced more serious consequences, since “undesirable” organizations are prohibited from operating in Russia. Chairman of the REO Rashid Ismailov said that he had encountered "unfriendly actions" by Greenpeace and WWF. Both organizations allegedly form "negative public opinion about the actions of the Russian government and companies in the field of nature conservation":
“There was a case when Greenpeace showed a fake image from space of water off the coast of Kamchatka for subsequent false accusations. This has a destructive effect on public opinion, forms false ideas about the work of the authorities. And this is not ecology, but politics.”
