The artist Ilya Kabakov died on May 27. This was announced by the Ilya and Emilia Kabakov Foundation. The artist was 89 years old.

As follows from the message, Kabakov died surrounded by relatives. The funeral will be held in a narrow circle, and a memorial service for everyone will be organized a few weeks later.

One of the brightest representatives of Moscow conceptualism, famous for his installations, was born on September 30, 1933 in Dnepropetrovsk. He studied and worked in Moscow, in the late 1980s he moved to Berlin and then to the USA. Kabakov's works "Beetle" (2008) and "Luxury Room" (2006) are called the most expensive works of contemporary Russian art: the first was sold for $5.8 million, the second - $4.1 million.

Kabakov's works are in the collections of the world's leading museums, including the Pompidou Center (Paris), the Hermitage (St. Petersburg), the Tretyakov Gallery (Moscow), the Museum of Modern Art of Norway and others. In recent decades, he worked in collaboration with his wife Emilia. In 2017, the Tate Modern Gallery in London hosted an exhibition by Ilya and Emilia Kabakov "Not Everyone Will Be Taken Into the Future".
