The U.S. federal prosecutor's office has filed charges of illegal possession of classified documents against former President Donald Trump, reports Bloomberg. These included papers describing US conventional and nuclear weapons programs, potential weaknesses in the country's defenses, and plans to counter foreign invasion.

The indictment is a 49-page document that was filed on June 8 in Miami federal court. According to him, boxes of classified materials were stored in the Trump estate in Mar-a-Lago (Florida) everywhere: "in the hall, in the toilet and shower, in the bedroom and in the closet."

Previously, cases against the former president have never been heard in federal court. He may be sentenced to prison or barred from holding public office. A Bloomberg source says Trump has been accused of knowingly keeping national defense information, criminally concealing documents, conspiring to obstruct justice, and making false statements.

The former president posted the following statement on his Truth Social:

“I never thought that this could happen to a former US president who received more votes in the election than any other president in the history of our country, who is leading among all candidates in the 2024 presidential election according to opinion polls among both Democrats and and among Republicans. I AM NOT GUILTY!"

On May 9, a jury found Donald Trump guilty in a lawsuit filed by writer and publicist Jean Carroll for sexually harassing her in the 1990s. He was ordered to pay Carroll $ 5 million in compensation. The jury also found him guilty of defamation.
