The Moscow City Court sentenced 46-year-old father of many children Vitaly Koltsov to 6 years in a general regime colony under Art. 317 of the Criminal Code (encroachment on the life of an employee) for throwing two Molotov cocktails into paddy wagons with OMON officers. This is reported by "Mediazona" from the courtroom.
Earlier, prosecutor Elvira Zotchik said that the collegium found Koltsov guilty of attacking paddy wagons and riot police. She insisted that Koltsov encroached on the lives of law enforcement officers, despite the fact that the jury excluded the phrase “with the aim of depriving them of their lives” from the charge. The prosecutor's office demanded that Koltsov be sentenced to 19 years and 6 months in a strict regime colony.
Koltsov was detained on May 2, 2022, when he threw two Molotov cocktails at two paddy wagons on Revolution Square in Moscow. According to investigators, 12 riot policemen were there at that moment, one of the paddy wagons caught fire, the fire was quickly extinguished. Koltsov was accused of attempted murder of 12 OMON officers and of deliberate arson. Koltsov himself denied the attempt on the life of the riot police, stating that he did not plan to kill anyone and did it in protest.
