Yulia Starostina, a former journalist for The Bell and Project publications, who helps Ukrainian refugees in Russia, has been charged with “discrediting” the army, Dozhd reports . What was the reason for initiating the administrative case is not reported.
“I learned about the initiation of a case against me when I saw a card on the website of the Moscow City Court. I advise everyone to monitor their name there! It is not yet clear what exactly attracted the attention of the state and became a reason for pressure. I am temporarily suspending my volunteer assistance to refugees from Ukraine, but I continue to work as a journalist,” Starostina told Dozhd.
Since April 2022, Yulia Starostina has been collecting and delivering warm clothes, children's clothes, dishes, hygiene items to Ukrainian refugees who are in a temporary accommodation center in Russia.
At the end of January, two residents of Moscow began to be checked for “discrediting” the Russian army after they starred in a Deutsche Welle street talk about the war in Ukraine. This was reported by the Telegram channel "Caution, news!". In a street talk, an interviewer asked passers-by how they feel about the increase in military aid provided to Ukraine by the West. Some of the respondents answered that they were against it, some supported this decision.
