Armenia managed to return the bodies of 225 servicemen who died during the Azerbaijani attack in September 2022. Radio Azatutyun reports this with reference to the National Security Service (NSS), which presented the results of the work of the interdepartmental commission on the issues of prisoners, hostages and missing, which was established in October 2022.
Currently, work continues to return the bodies of two more soldiers who died in September. In total, since the fall of 2020, after the 44-day war in Karabakh (Artsakh), Armenia has managed to return the bodies of 442 dead.
In addition, an officer and a conscript serving in the military unit of the city of Jermuk were reportedly evacuated from the territory occupied by Azerbaijani troops during the attack in September. In total, 173 servicemen and civilians have been returned from captivity so far.
The Azerbaijani army invaded the border regions of Armenia on the night of September 13, 2022, shelling settlements and infrastructure with the help of artillery, mortars and UAVs. In October, the affected regions of Syunik and Gegharkunik were visited by specialists from the EU technical assessment mission, who recorded the damage caused.
According to data released by the Investigative Committee of Armenia in January, 224 people were killed on the Armenian side, including three civilians, in the fighting that lasted September 13-14. Three soldiers were listed as missing. According to the Armenian authorities, Azerbaijan has occupied 140 km² of Armenian territory.
The Azerbaijani authorities reported the death of 80 servicemen of their army.
