A Russian-controlled court in the “DPR” sentenced Ukrainian serviceman Andrei Petrenko to 22 years in a strict regime colony. According to TASS with reference to the Chief Military Prosecutor's Office of the Russian Federation, a junior sergeant of the 36th separate marine brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine was tried for the murder of a resident of Mariupol.
According to investigators, in March 2022, during the battles for Mariupol, Petrenko shot a civilian from a sniper rifle. “Petrenko explained his actions by the fact that the man, in his opinion, was a supporter of a special military operation of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation,” the prosecutor’s office said. The Marine was found guilty of murder for political and ideological reasons and the use of prohibited means and methods of warfare.
On February 22, it became known that for the first time a Russian court had received a case against a Ukrainian serviceman. The Southern District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don is trying Anton Cherednik, who is accused of "cruel treatment of the civilian population" and "forcible seizure of power."
