Georgian police detained 66 people during a protest rally that took place on the evening of March 7 in front of the parliament building in Tbilisi. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia, they are charged with petty hooliganism and disobedience to the police.

In addition, an investigation has been launched under criminal articles on violence against government officials and damage to property. The interior ministry said in a statement that about 50 police officers were injured in clashes with protesters, some of them were hospitalized. It is noted that there are victims among the citizens.

The statement emphasizes that what happened on Rustaveli Avenue went beyond the scope of a peaceful protest and resulted in a breach of law and order that lasted several hours. It is indicated that the activists set fire to the parliament building, threw stones and broke windows.

On May 7, the Parliament of Georgia adopted in the first reading a bill from “foreign agents”. In the evening, a crowd of protesters gathered near the building, the action turned into clashes with the police, who used tear gas and brought in water cannons.
