The National Security Committee of Kazakhstan is investigating 10 criminal cases in connection with the participation of citizens of the country in the war on the territory of Ukraine. It is reported by the publication KazTAG.

Information about the defendants in the criminal case and their actions is currently unknown. In particular, it is not reported on whose side the citizens of Kazakhstan fought. Under the Criminal Code of Kazakhstan, participation in foreign armed conflicts is punishable by up to 9 years in prison.

In November 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on contract service in the Russian Armed Forces for men with a second citizenship. The decree was published on the portal of legal acts.

The decree says that citizens with foreign citizenship, a residence permit in another state or another document that confirms the right of a citizen to permanent residence in the territory of a foreign state are allowed to serve in the Russian army upon conscription.
