Kyiv keeps details of counteroffensive secret to avoid leaking classified data – Politico

The Ukrainian authorities are keeping the details of their upcoming counter-offensive under wraps to avoid leaking sensitive data. Politico writes about this with reference to two European officials who are in touch with the Ukrainian military command.

According to the sources of the publication, the Ukrainian authorities are afraid of leaking documents, as happened in the case of the recent leak of the Pentagon. Kyiv refrains from sharing information about the timing of the counteroffensive and where and how many troops it plans to deploy. An anonymous Ukrainian MP told Politico that his senior colleagues also kept details of the counteroffensive from other politicians. According to him, only a few people in Ukraine know about the details of the plan.

At the same time, a representative of the US Department of Defense said in a conversation with Politico that Washington and Kyiv are still exchanging information at the same level. He claims that there is nothing to indicate that Ukraine is hiding any data from the United States. Pentagon spokesman John Kirby, in turn, believes that Ukraine's silence before the counteroffensive is natural. “They are not required to notify us or inform us in advance. <...> We are focused on ensuring that they have everything they need when they are ready for action, ”Kirby said.

Earlier, the Armed Forces of Ukraine called a fire at an oil depot in Sevastopol a preparation for a counteroffensive. It happened on the night of April 29th. The occupying authorities of the peninsula blamed Ukrainian drones for everything and in response called for an attack on Odessa.
